LoS Snippet

This is a cute snippet from The Dark Artifices book #2 due to release in April 2017. I find it cute because of a certain warlock baby featured.

And even odder, when Mark and Kieran had come into the library, Kieran had gone immediately over to Max and picked him up, delighted by his blue skin and his tiny horns.

Max had stuck his hand into Kieran’s wavy hair and pulled. Kieran had just laughed. “That’s right, it changes color, little nixie-like warlock,” he said. “Look.” And his hair went from blue-black to blue in an instant. Max giggled.

“I didn’t know you could do that on purpose,” said Mark, who had always thought of Kieran’s hair as a reflection of his moods, uncontrollable as the tides.

“You don’t know a lot of things about me, Mark Blackthorn,” Kieran said, setting Max down.

Alec and Magnus had exchanged a look at that, the sort of look that made Mark feel as if they had reached a silent and agreed-upon consensus …

Lady Midnight Inside Cover Image

If you buy the Costco version of Lady Midnight, you also receive a Cassandra Jean picture on the inside cover, but Cassandra Clare posted the picture to her Tumblr so everyone could see it!

I thought you guys might like to see the jacket interior illustration Cassandra Jean did for the Costco version of Lady Midnight, with each character labeled. I don’t own a copy myself but I’ve seen it and it’s very pretty! These are the TMI and TDA characters, portrayed together — not every one of the TMI character appears in Lady Midnight, but they do appear through the series. And there’s one TDA character that is left out, because, spoilers :)

You can see all of the main characters in Lady Midnight, and also some TMI characters that will be in the future TDA books!

Julian Smoking Deleted Scene

Some of you may remember that in the first draft of Lady Midnight, Julian smoked to relieve stress. As the character developed, however, Cassandra Clare thought better of it, knowing Julian is not the kind of person to do something that harmful to his body around his very young siblings that look up to him. He originally smoked clove cigarettes, which is why he is described as smelling like cloves. He doesn’t smoke now, but Cassandra Clare left that part in anyway. Here is a scene with Emma and Julian that mentions Julian’s smoking that was part of the first draft of Lady Midnight.

LoS Snippet and Cassandra Jean Fanart

Now that Lady Midnight is out, it’s time to start getting hyped for the next Dark Artifices book, Lord of Shadows! This is due to be released April 2017 as of right now. Not For Humans Extra TMI Scene

You may have heard of a time referenced in one of The Mortal Instruments books where Jace ran down a street wearing nothing but a pair of antlers on his head. This story has some Mortal Instruments characters, as well as characters from Holly Black’s series, Modern Faerie Tale. It originally started out as a charity project where you donated money to a charity and received a pdf of the story, but now enough time has passed that it has been publicly published! You don’t need to know Holly Black’s characters to find this story humorous.

Julian’s Sea Glass Bracelet from Lady Midnight (and Where to Buy One)

Julian's Sea Glass Bracelet from Lady Midnight

It is mentioned in the book that Julian Blackthorn has a lucky sea glass bracelet he wears on his left wrist. Jem Carstairs was the one who sent the sea glass via Church to Emma Carstairs as a present, who then made a bracelet for Julian with them. The bracelet is described in the book as being made of “flame red, fire gold, {and} Blackthorn blue” sea glass. Etsy has many beautiful sea glass bracelets, some that look like the bracelet described in the book, and others that are merely inspired by Julian’s. Many of these bracelets are very affordable and look great.

Below is the image Cassandra Clare had in her mind of the bracelet as she was writing Lady Midnight.

Here’s one I found that is similar for $43 and that you can request to have customized. When you order, just specify that you want all red, gold, and blue sea glass:

Here’s another bracelet that is similar and sells for $30:

If you are looking to spend less money, they have many sea glass bracelets that sell for under $20. Some of them say that you can customize them as well. Here are a sample of the ones I found for under $20 (some even for under $10). If you search around the site, I am sure you will find one that suits you perfectly. They bracelets themselves are made of many different materials including leather, metal, and wire.

If you are wondering like I was what exactly sea glass is, it is glass that started as bottles tableware, shipwrecks, etc. and then tumbled around in the ocean for years until it rough edges are rounded off and it starts to look like a gem.

Do you want a sea glass bracelet now that you have read Lady Midnight? I do!
