A History of Notable Shadowhunters

A book has been released called A History of Notable Shadowhunters and Denizens of Downworld: Told in the Language of Flowers by Cassandra “Cartwright” Clare and Cassandra “Starkweather” Jean.  It is inspired by the Victorian Language of Flowers.

It basically has many pictures of different flowers and explains what kind of flower they are, plus extra information about those flowers. What the Cassandras are doing are they’re making a book where instead of flowers, it is different characters from The Mortal Instruments, The Infernal Devices, The Dark Artifices, Tales From the Shadowhunter Academy, and The Last Hours. Cassandra Jean will be drawing portraits of the characters, and Cassandra Clare will be revealing exclusive details and notes on the characters! Pre-order here!

Song Inspired by The Mortal Instruments

This song was written by a girl named Lorna Elvin inspired by The Mortal Instruments series. It’s called “Clary” from the point of view of Simon. It’s so cute and has a lot of little references to parts of the book. I really recommend listening to the beautiful piece and wonderful vocals and lyrics over and over again!

This scene is the Clace cave scene from City of Heavenly Fire, which Cassie had to tone down to make less “racy”. Cassie says there is also a racier version of the Wessa cave scene of Clockwork Princess, she just has to find it, but will release it when she does. 🙂

For a moment Jace just looked at her in astonishment, his lips parted slightly; Clary felt her cheeks flush. He was looking at her like she was the first star that had ever come out in the sky, a miracle painted across the face of the world that he could barely believe in. He swallowed. “Let me —“ he said, and broke off. “Can I kiss you? Please?”

COLS Deleted Snippet

This snippet is from the fifth Mortal Instruments book, City of Lost Souls. This is after Jace becomes evil, and Cassie ended up rewriting this scene for the book, but this was the first draft.

Clary didn’t know how long she’d been sitting on Luke’s front steps when the sun began to come up. It rose behind his house, the sky turning a dark pinkish-rose, the river a strip of steely blue. She was shivering — had been shivering so long that her whole body seemed to have contracted into a single hard shudder of cold. She had used two warming runes, but they hadn’t helped; she had a feeling the shivering was psychological as much as anything else. Would he come? If he was still as much Jace inside as she thought he was, he would; when he said he would come back for her, he would have meant as soon as possible. Jace was impatient. And he didn’t play games.
