A History of Notable Shadowhunters

A book has been released called A History of Notable Shadowhunters and Denizens of Downworld: Told in the Language of Flowers by Cassandra “Cartwright” Clare and Cassandra “Starkweather” Jean.  It is inspired by the Victorian Language of Flowers.

Victorian Flower Dictionary Cover

It basically has many pictures of different flowers and explains what kind of flower they are, plus extra information about those flowers. What the Cassandras are doing are they’re making a book where instead of flowers, it is different characters from The Mortal Instruments, The Infernal Devices, The Dark Artifices, Tales From the Shadowhunter Academy, and The Last Hours. Cassandra Jean will be drawing portraits of the characters, and Cassandra Clare will be revealing exclusive details and notes on the characters! Pre-order here!

Angels Twice Descending Snippet

The last Shadowhunter Academy novella was released today! Here’s a snippet, but get it on Kindle and read it!!

Simon stood on the sidewalk, staring up at his mother’s brownstone, his stomach churning. Traveling by way of Portal always made him feel a bit like puking up his lower intestine, but this time, he didn’t think he could blame the inter-dimensional magic. Not entirely, at least.

“You sure this is a good idea?” he said. “It’s late.”

“It’s eleven pm, Simon,” Clary said. “You know she’s still awake. And even if she’s not, you know—”

*****TMI SPOILERS*****

There are only two more Shadowhunter Academy books to be released: Born to Endless Night on October 20, and Angels Twice Descending on November 17. I am posting three of the main characters in those books: Simon Lewis, George Lovelace, and Catarina Loss.

Simon is the best friend of Clary Fray. He started out as a regular Jewish mundane, became a vampire by biting one, became a “Daylighter” (vampire that could go in the sun) by consuming angel blood, then a mundane again, then decided to Ascend to become a Shadowhunter. Simon loved Clary romantically for most of their mundane lives, but after she didn’t return his feelings, he moved on and ended up becoming romantically involved with Isabelle Lightwood.

George Lovelace Flower Card

George was a mundane adopted by the Lovelace family. This Lovelace family (separate albeit still related to Jessamine) also abandoned Shadowhunter life in the 1700s. George was invited to attend the Shadowhunter Academy (they did not know he was a mundane), and angered that his family hid the Shadow World from him, he accepted. He is now the roomate and good friend of Simon Lewis. George is very fit and athletic, excelling in most of the activities they do at the Academy, and is also funny and sarcastic, much like Simon.

Catarina Loss Flower Card

Catarina is a warlock very skilled in healing. Her warlock mark is her blue skin, so she uses a galmour when working at the Beth Israel Hospital in New York helping mundanes. Sometime in the 1800s, Catarina was very close to the Herondale family. Tobias Herondale went mad in the woods because of a warlock spell and it appeared Tobias had fled during battle, the worst crime for Shadowhunters. His pregnant wife, Eva, was sentenced to execution, so Catarina delivered her baby and raised him in the mortal world, unbeknownst that he was a Shadowhunter. She is good friends with warlock Magnus Bane and Shadowhunter Jocelyn Fairchild, and helped the Shadowhunters immensly during the Dark War. She now also helps teach at the Shadowhunter Academy.

The Whitechapel Fiend Snippet

The third TSA novella, The Whitechapel Fiend, comes out tomorrow! Just a reminder that this novella stars the inhabitants of the London Institute right after The Infernal Devices takes place. It highlights the Shadowhunters finding and killing Jack the Ripper. If you don’t know who Jack the Ripper is, I advise you to look him up before you read the book, but be careful because it’s pretty nasty. Cassandra Clare released one more snippet for us before the book comes out:

“It’s not appropriate,” Tessa said to her husband, Will.

“He likes it.”

“Children like all sorts of things, Will. They like sweets and fire and trying to stick their head up the chimney. Just because he likes the dagger…”

The Whitechapel Fiend Snippet

Most of you are following The Shadowhunter Academy series starring former Daylighter Simon Lewis. This series of novellas follow Simon through his journey of Ascending to being a Shadowhunter. The Shadowhunter Academy is being written like The Bane Chronicles was, where she releases one novella a month, then compiles each novella into one big book. You can only get TSA books on ebook for now, but will be able to buy the full book when she is done writing them all. So far there have been two released: Welcome to the Shadowhunter Acdemy and The Lost Herondale. The next novella, coming out April 21 stars the owners of the London Institute around 1890 (right after TID takes place) as they track down historical Jack the Ripper. As a huge fan of TID series, I’m especially excited for this next novella. This pariticular novella is titled The Whitechapel Fiend, as that was a nickname Jack the Ripper bore. A snippet from this book was released a while ago that I am including in this post.

Will stopped glaring at Gabriel, and turned to Tessa. He looked at her and his face softened; the traces of the wild broken boy he had been vanished, replaced with the expression often worn by the man he was now, who knew what it was to love and be loved. ‘Dear heart,’ he said. He took her hand and kissed it. ‘Who knows your courage better than I?’
